National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is the New York marathon for aspiring novelists. The challenge is to write the first draft of a 50,000 word novel in the thirty days of November.
I tried it in 2011. I didn’t make it to the novel but I got a long way there and learnt a lot along the way. You can read the outcome here.
This year, I’ve written almost no fiction, so I’m trying to redress the balance by trying NaNoWriMo again this year.
I have an idea that’s been shouting at me for a while now about charting the key events that shape the relationship of a couple by setting them on different beaches around the world.
It’s too ambitious to be a short story and I haven’t had the time or the stamina to write a novel but I figure I have nothing to lose by trying to wrestle this to the page over the next month.
I’ll publish the segments here as I write them. I’ll also publish some thoughts about the experience as I go along. All feedback is welcome.
