Today was the day of Shane MacGowan’s funeral. I think about him, Sinead O’Connor and Kirsty MacColl all being gone and I feel old and sad. Then I listen to their music and I’m once again flooded with emotions that never seem to fade.
My wife was following news of the funeral and the tributes to Shane MacGowan and saw a song of his that we somehow missed, called ‘Rainy Day In Soho’, So today, when the man is being buried, we got to sit together and take in the power of his words and let them bring us to tears.
My wife told me that this song is really a poem. I agree with her and, for me, the most powerful verse is the last, Here it is:
