I’ve been neglecting my TBR shelves for the past few weeks, letting myself get swept up in the excitement of the new, so I decided to pull this week’s reading from books that have been on my shelves for a while (2021 and 2019). I’m restless at the moment so I’ve selected thrillers that I hope will keep me turning the pages to find out what will happen next.
One was a debut novel that launched a successful trilogy. One was the twelfth standalone thriller from an author who, four yrars later, when on to launch what is now a ten book series.
I’m hoping these books will keep me entertained and have me looking forward to diving into them each day to like a favourite TV series.
“Her Name Is Knight“ (2021) by Yasmin Angoe
I picked up this book back in 2021 because Amazon was offering it for free, I liked the premise (I usually enjoy books about women seeking violent vengeance) and the cover was vibrant and eye-catching (unlike the title which told me nothing much).
It’s been sitting on my shelf ever since. Meanwhile, the rest of the trilogy has been published and this month saw the publication, Yasmin Angoe’s first standalone novel, ‘Not What She Seems‘. I’m hoping that I’ll have fun with ‘Her Name Is Knight’ and want to read the rest of the trilogy.

YASMIN ANGOE s the Anthony-nominated author of the critically acclaimed thriller Her Name Is Knight of the Nena Knight trilogy. She is a first-generation Ghanaian American and, in 2020, received the Eleanor Taylor Bland Award for Emerging Writers of Color from Sisters in Crime.
Yasmin is a proud member of Crime Writers of Color, Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, International Thriller Writers, and the Women’s National Book Association.
Yasmin is a former English teacher and instructional coach, and lives in South Carolina with her husband and their kids.
“The Survivor” (2012) by Gregg Hurwitz
I bought ‘The Survivor‘ back in 2019, after reading ‘Orphan X‘ the first book in the series for which Gregg Hurwitz is best known. I loved the idea of someone deciding to take on a gang of armed bank robbers because he was in the bank to kill himself so he had nothing to lose.
I’ve already started ‘The Survivor’. The start was even better than I’d expected. The flashback parts were a little too much like a movie montage for my taste but there are some original touches.
I’m execting the main male character to suffer in this book. Currently, I have no idea if or how he will survive to the end of the novel.
GREGG HURWITZ is the New York Times #1 internationally bestselling author of 24 thrillers including the Orphan X series. His novels have won numerous literary awards and have been published in 33 languages.
Gregg currently serves as the Co-President of International Thriller Writers (ITW). Additionally, he’s written screenplays and television scripts for many of the major studios and networks, comics for AWA (including the critically acclaimed anthology NewThink), DC, and Marvel, and poetry.
