Today, I was flicking through a poetry book that my wife gave to me when I found a poem by Carol Ann Duffy that I hadn’t seen before. It’s a tongue-in-cheek piece in the form of a diary entry written by Mrs Darwin that casts a whole new light on the origin of ‘The Origin of the Species’.

I think it’s clever and funny. It reminded me of the rather harsh cartoons that were drawn of Darwin in the popular press after he published his book, so I’ve put one of them and Carol Ann Duffy’s poem side by side.
