My Halloween Bingo reads this week have all been picked because they are squares that have already been called: Dystopian Hellscape, Doomsday and Classic Horror. Quite a gloomy collection, isn’t it?
The books I’ve chosen are more diverse than the squares might suggest. The oldest was written in 1968 and the most recent in 2020. The writers are American, British and Portuguese. Two of the writers are dead. One won the Nobel Prize for Literature. One book looks at the Black American Experience through the lens of speculative fiction, one looks at the highs and lows of how people react to a world-ending disaster, and one investigates the strange deaths associated with a young woman who has graphic visions of a violent former life.
That should keep me engaged and it will also mean that I’ll have at least five of my twenty-five squares read and called.
