‘Speaking Poetry’ by Mike Finn – a poem written in response to a tweet.

On the rare occasions when I try to write poetry, it’s normally a response to something I’ve seen or heard that made me lift my head from the day-to-day.

This poem was a response to a tweet from @booktasters. Normally, their stuff makes me smile at what a strange subset of society we readers are but when I saw the graphic below, my first thought was “Not true.”

Here’s the poem I wrote to explain to myself why I had that reaction.

I’m Rose Crossley’s sister, Nancy. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, & she often fwd’s your emails to me. I just want to say that I love your little poem. I very much enjoy reading poetry aloud, even just to myself, & I can very much relate to the feelings your verse espouses.
