‘Cold Storage’ is a rare example of a great book that has been adapted to become an equally great movie. I guess it helps that the novel was written by David Koepp, the ninth most successful screenwriter of all time in terms of U.S. box office receipts with a total gross of over $2.3 billion.
I had a lot of fun with the audiobook in 2021. It’s still one of my favourite techno-thrillers. Here’s my review of the audiobook:
One of the things that makes the movie work so well is the stellar cast. Joe Keary (Stranger Things) and Georgina Campbell play the two young minimum wage workers on the night shift at the storage facility. Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville play the (now old and retired) military specialists who are the only ones who can stop the threat. Sosie Bacon plays the scientist who works out what’s going on at the start of the movie, and Vanessa Redgrave plays the old lady who comes to the storage facility with a surprise in her bag.
My wife and I watched this on DVD on a Saturday night. We thought it was perfect popcorn fun. Lots of action. A few smiles. Some great one-liners, and gore splattered everywhere. Oh, and I have to love a movie that closes with ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’ playing as the lead up to the final Jump Scare shot
Here’s the official trailer. Enjoy:
